Grow tomatoes indoor
People who may not have the space to grow tomatoes and yet would love to have home grown tomatoes, can go ahead to raise tomatoes in containers right in their own home. To grow tomatoes inside the comforts of your own home, you have to be very particular about its needs. One should know that house plants require more attention than regular plants, since these plants are not exposed to the direct sunlight and may not be getting the necessary nutrition from its environment. Growing tomatoes indoors is not a difficult task. Anybody can grow tomatoes indoors with basic guidelines. You have to keep the basic elements in mind while growing tomatoes indoors and the basic elements are soil (medium), light, water and the proper temperature to grow successfully. In indoor plantation, you don’t have to worry about issues such as digging in the soil, pulling weeds, no need to worry about the birds and insects, unless you have to place your plants on balconies during the sunny hours.
In order to grow indoor tomato plants, you need to follow certain basic tips, which are as follows:
1) Have the right size container for your indoor tomato plant:
First you need to find the right size container for your plants. To get this done, you must first decide which type of tomato plant you want to grow and accordingly you purchase the container. For example: If you want the little cherry tomatoes (which are good for salad making) then you can opt for a regular size hanging basket. However, if you prefer the larger tomatoes, you should then purchase five gallon buckets, in order to allow the plants to have plenty of room to grow.
2) Provide the right soil for your indoor tomato plant:
It is preferable to use potting soil mix that contains sphagnum peat, vermiculite and perlite. You can use peat pellets that are easily available at most gardening stores or try making online purchase.
3) Provide the necessary light for the indoor tomato plant:
As you are going to grow tomato plants inside your house, make sure that the room is well lit and ventilated. Indoor tomato plants need about 8 to 12 hours of bright light on a per day basis. You should take care to avoid cold drafts or to hot environment. If you are unable to provide proper room lighting environment, you can then take help of many sources for plant lighting which is available at your gardening store or you can check for sources on the internet. Keep in mind that tomato plants also need a period of sleep in the form of darkness.
4) Give adequate water to your indoor tomato plant:
When you growing tomato plants from seeds, keep the soil(medium) moist. Do not over water and let the soil dry out slightly before your plants again. Water is considered as the most important thing needed by plants and it would die almost instantly if it did not get enough water to absorb. Plants need water so that the nutrients and oxygen gets well extracted from the soil. You can tackle with the above situation by using potting mixtures that are easily available in the market. These mixes are better than regular soil and they are able to retain water in a much better way.
5) Maintain the right temperature towards indoor tomato plants:
Tomato plants can grow in wide temperature range but they do well in warmer temperatures. During the day time, the temperature should be about 68 to 80 degrees. At night the temperature should be between 58 to 68 degrees.
