How to grow tomatoes from tomato seeds
Tomatoes are one of the most commonly grown fruit and it is eaten throughout the world. Tomatoes contain antioxidant properties which help in preventing prostate cancer in human beings. Tomatoes are now popularly grown by the organic method at home too. Gardeners and even farmers consider tomato growing as a very successful crop that brings excellent rewards which is worth their effort. Tomatoes can be raised with the help of tomato seeds that are planted indoors for a period of eight weeks before they can be planted outside. If you want to get best results then you should plant the seeds early. The best result with minimum risk is achieved by planting them when the soil is warm.
These days it’s easy to get information about tomato seeds. All you have to do is just access the internet and get the necessary information. Customers need to know the type of tomato that they require in order to grow before selecting the seeds. There are a variety of tomato seeds that yield good quality tomatoes. Some of the varieties are: green grape, green zebra tomato, Brandy wine tomatoes, mortgage lifter tomato and Cherokee purple. Also, before you decide to choose your seeds, you should be able to know what you’ll be using the fruit for. For example of you grow ‘Better Boy’ type of tomatoes, you could then use it with some sort of Beef steak or you could decide to grow “ cherry tomato”, which are used for making salad. Likewise, paste or plum tomatoes are generally used for canning or sauces. Whatever type of tomato you choose, make sure that you buy your seeds from a reputable source.
Once you have decided on your seeds, you can then plant them in rich soil. It is best to sow your tomato seeds in sterile starting mix rather than soil, as this will protect your plants from disease and competition when they are in their most tender stage. These days, there are many good seed starting mixes that are available in the market. Example: Park’s Bio Dome, with trays and protective domes that maximize germination, as well as individual cells for each seed. If you are using a seed starting kit, then ensure that you plant your seed by following the sowing directions that come with the kit. You can also use a simple and direct method of sowing your tomato seeds by choosing the required tomato and then after you remove the seeds from the tomato, you must dry the seeds for few days and then take some seeds and plant them in a container of rich soil. You must then water them nicely and sun them accordingly. After a short time period, you will see sprout emerging from the soil. Also, within few days or weeks, you will have tall sprouts, that are now over shadowing the small container that once held a few seeds. You will later notice that the sprouts are being now multiplied and have grown to almost foot tall and are starting to bend and wither.
You have to now carefully remove the tiny plants from the crowded container and move them to a large pot with a metal fencing for them to cling to, as they grow. Continue to water then in their rich soil and see that they are positioned into a sunlit environment. With a short span of time, you will be able to see tiny flavescent flowers springing from the big container. You may also see green balls growing near these flowers. You should continue to nurture the plants the plants. Some tiny tomatoes may have begun to grow oblong and these others which may have doubled or tripled in size. You can now enjoy your fruit salad from your tomato plants.
